This low energy system crystallizes the aluminum and other chlorides in the TCS reactor effluent and continuously removes and concentrates the fine crystals in a two stage liquid cyclone. Commercial operation and analysis has shown that the aluminum removal performance matched the predicted performance and removed fine MGS particles carried over from the gas cyclone. This early low temperature removal also traps phosphorus contaminants on the surface of the AlCl3 crystals thus avoiding phosphorus excursions in downstream processing.
Crystallization is a low energy process
